Applying for a Malta Digital Nomad Visa

In the last two years, the pandemic has accelerated the concept of remote work and led to an increase in the number of digital nomads.

 

Due to the surge in the number of remote workers who work from places outside of their permanent residence and their economic impact on the country they choose to work in, nations around the world are now offering people digital nomad visas for a limited period of time. Malta recently joined the list of countries offering digital nomad visas to foreign nationals.

 

Malta’s digital nomad visa program allows individuals from a foreign country to move, reside and work remotely from the picturesque archipelago. The Malta work visa will allow individuals to work from the country for up to one year.

 

Residence permits Malta Nomad sanctions digital nomads to stay and obtain a work permit in Malta. Make sure your current employment is based outside of Malta and has no problem with you working remotely in Malta for visa purposes.

So if you plan to work remotely for the rest of the year, Malta Nomad Residence may be the digital nomad visa program you are looking for. If you meet all the guidelines of the programme, you will be entitled to a Malta Nomad Residence Permit which will be valid for one year.

 

You can also apply for a national visa if you want to stay for less than a year. Digital nomads who want to live and work from Malta for up to 180 days will be given a national visa, while individuals who want to relocate to Malta for a minimum of 365 days or more will be given a nomad residence permit.

 

You have a monthly income of at least €2,700; you are a partner of a company registered outside Malta, you are an employee of a company outside Malta and have a contract with that company and you are a consultant and offer freelance or consultancy services to non-Malta citizens with whom you have a contract.

 

As a holder of a nomadic residence permit, you will not be subject to personal income tax as you are already taxed in your country of origin. However, you will be subject to excise duty like all maltese residents.

  5. Upload your documents by email for review.

  7. Follow up with the caseworker by email or phone until all documents and forms are complete.
  8. We will send you the immigration forms for you to sign.
  9. Pay the remaining 50% of our fees.
  10. We will send the application to the immigration services.
  11. Wait for a decision on your application.
  12. Go to the consulate and collect your visa.

Once you get your visa, you can enter Malta.
