Spain has become a famous destination for easy relocation in Europe. Although there are several reasons, such as the weather, health care, and culture, made it a good choice for people planning to move to Europe. Recently, there has been an introduction of the digital nomad visa that allows non-EU citizens who wish to work remotely in Spain, retire or live in Spain.

Under the start-up law, remote working in Spain is possible for the following categories:

 

  • If you can work independently
  • If you can use technology to complete your activities
  • If you can run a business registered in another country

 

This program allows you to live continuously in Spain for five years and request permanent residency, valid for ten years, with access to all benefits available for nationalities of Spain.

 

Here are certain things to know:

  • You must be willing to live in the country for at least six months in a year which is a total of 183 days.
  • You will become a tax resident, and the government will tax your worldwide income.
  • You need to demonstrate that you have adequate funds to support yourself (and your family) in Spain.
  • You cannot work in Spain if you are the principal Applicant, excluding your spouse and children.

To apply for a self-employed work visa in Portugal, you will need to present the following documents:

  • Application form 
  • Valid passport 
  • Two passport-sized photographs 
  • Proof of regular income or passive income
  • Proof of accommodation in Spain
  • Criminal background check 
  • Valid travel insurance with health coverage 
  • Six months of bank statements

Ensure the documents you provide are original documents or certified copies.

  • You need to able to have sufficient funds (between 27.000-30.000 euros).
  • You must have a one-year health insurance policy.
  • You must provide a bank certificate or bank statements from the last six months.
  • You must pass an interview/check at a Spanish consulate
  • Access to the National Health Services.
  • Processing time for you and your family within three months.
  • Exercise any work activity as an independent professional.
  • Dependents under 21 years may attend the school.
  • Travel freely in and out of Spain and other Schengen zones.
  • Duration of visa: Valid for 1 Year
  • Renewals: 2 Years Period
  • Access to Permanent Residence: 5 Years

Three months

To apply for a Spain non-lucrative visa, you must be: 

  • Be over 18 years old
  • Not be in Spain with irregular immigration status
  • Have no criminal record
  • Have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family
  • Become a tax resident of Spain
